Three reasons why I don’t write on Medium anymore

And what I’m doing now instead

Dear Readers,

This is not a rant. It’s an honest clarification about three concerns which prompt me to stop writing on this platform. I have benefited greatly from my eight years of writing on Medium. And I cherish the learning and many relationships that have evolved well beyond this platform.

But. I stopped writing here a few months ago. I’ll explain why and invite you to stay with me elsewhere if I may be of service on your journey.

My three reasons for stopping my regular writing here are simple:

1. I need to prioritize my time to run a profitable business. The time it takes to share the sort of content I am best suited to serve — credibly discerning sustainability noise from true impact — is not financially viable on Medium for my context.

2. Many high quality, pioneering writers are either hidden by the algorithm or they need to pander to it to stay in the game. See this piece about demonitization by indi.ca here for a painful example. I could list (and I did regularly tag) dozens of others who merit far wider distribution than they get here. I’m playful, but I don’t play Algorithm.
